My Ruger line starts with Gideon Rugar (there are some variants of the spelling) who was in Plattsburgh, NY prior to the War of 1812.

I have only one child listed, but I bet that is not the case for Gideon Rugar and that is John Ruger (the spelling changed with him), and he was born in 1784 in Schaghticoke, Rensselaer, New York. Gideon married a Sarah Wiley. If your family is from New York and they are Dutch, my John Ruger very well could be David's brother or cousin.

The names are getting familiar now and seem like they could be in the same family. The dates is throwing me off??? I am new at this. I do remember my grandmother saying once, Ruger has been spelled a lot of ways. She said when they first came over it was Von Rugger. They dropped the Von upon arrival in US, and then dropped the second "g". I have a birth registration for a Roy Rugger dated july 7, 1906, parents: Lucia Bell (Young) Rugger and Father Edward Rugger. Ed was my grandfather, but my grandmother was his 3rd wife. When Ed and my grandmother had my mother they spelled it "RUGER"

I found information that shows Gideon, Grabrel and Harmon came to America the first of 1663 from Delft Holland. Doesn't tell what between then and when David Ruger was born abt 1790.

It shows a Abraham and Jenny Ruger in 1740, possible in Plattsburg/Clinton Co New York. Could Abraham be a uncle to David?

I am not a paid member to ancestry, but I found a page sent to my mother from a freind who is a paid member and it shows:

The quarry was for "New York Births and Baptisms, Southeat Region, 1660-1916"
