Greetings elusive.

Do you have Arthur's marriage or death details to assist with record searches?

Hi Tonkin,
Thank you for answering.
I've had a 30 year search for him. He was my great grandfather, my grandmother was born illegimately in 1897 in Christchurch. I think Arthur was not born in New Zealand as I can find no record and he possibly moved on after 1897 as no death record either. I know he was in NZ in Jan 1897 as my great grandmother took him to court for affiliation and he was ordered to pay 50 pound to remain in the country and 50 pound to the unborn child.I've often wondered if he went to Australia and I think he competed in cycling.

have a good read through this elusive and see if there is a possibility it is 'your' Arthur (remember also that it was quite common to simply change your name back then when hiding from whoever)

Arthur James O'Neill (1866-1922)
born 1866 at Queanbeyan, NSW, Australia
married in 1890 to Mary Amelia CAMPBELL at Bombala, NSW
died 12 July 1922 at Queanbeyan, NSW aged 56

Hello Ngairedith,
I have noticed this person and he is a possibility, but being married in 1890 put doubt on him although I did notice there was a gap between his children's births around 1896/97.The record I have from the birthing home says 'Cause of fall-young man' which could mean anything I suppose, but my great grandmother was born 1872 so I'm not sure. The ideal would be if someone from this family were doing genealogy, however this fact may be unknown to them.
Thank you for your reply.

You would be able to find out through Ancestry's NZ electoral roll records
http://search.ancestry.com.au/search/db.aspx?dbid=1836
This will give you occupation, address, and hopefull other people he was living with.
If you can't afford to sign up your local library should have free access through their services.
Archway may also give you some information.

Hi darianzam,
I don't have full access to Ancestry, but intend going to the library after the silly season. I am also waiting for a reply from a man in USA who has an Arthur on his tree with Ancestry and I think he may be the one. He was born in NZ as Arthur not Arthur James, in 1870.He moved to Australia c1897.
Thank you for your suggestion,
Merry Christmas,
