JOHN REMPHREY EDDY in late 1800-1900s looking for answers

Journal by Angel86

hi i am looking into my grandmothers family tree, now when it comes to her dad, i can barely find any information about it and the information she has given me is minimal.

her fathers name is John Remphrey Eddy and her mothers name is Mary Paretovich. But she has told me that he married once before my great Nana Mary to a lady named Maud. she said she died while giving birth to his first child. Name is Alfred John. i cant find any information anywhere and im at a dead end.

Johns sister is Elva Grace who had two children Henry Chappell and Theo Smith which doesnt make too much sense to me with different surnames.

now John and Elva's parents are:
John Remphrey Eddy (Snr)
Mary Dale

This is where i cant go any further, if anyone there has any information and is able to help me out that would be great. ive tried different spelling of eddy, eddie and remphrey, remfrey, remfry but to no avail im at a loss.

thanking you in advance

Based on where you are recorded as being from I assume you are talking of people based in New Zealand.

John Remphrey Eddy born 28 April 1905
Elva Grace Eddy born 28 July 1906

John Remphrey Eddy married Cecelia Maud Stafford on 12 November 1932.

Cecelia Maud Stafford(Eddy) died on 5 May 1933, link to her death notice:

Johns parents silver wedding notice link:

Follow this link to death notice of Cecelia's mother in 1933.

1941 Birth to J R & M Eddy (I assume your grandmother).

There is an Alva Grace Smith buried at Waiuku Cemetery in Auckland whose ages matches that of Elva Grace.

Hope some of this helps - Cheers

Headstone of Elva Grace Smith which may help with the Smith/Chappell names.

Newspaper article on their Silver wedding anniversary mentions J.R.E senior was from Cornwall, England and Mary Dale of Mt Pleasant, Ballarat, Australia.

I would try to find a copy of their marriage record in Australia, it may reveal who their parent are.

Hi there, John Eddy Snr died in NZ in 1930 aged 62 yrs - implied DOB about 1868 in Cornwall, England.

This MAY be his parents (this is the only marriage I could find which included the name Grace) Often family names were passed down - Elva Grace??

there was some interesting information here

but to my understanding Aunty Elva never had children and the 2 names mention Henry Chappell and Theo Smith were her husbands first uncle Harry and when he passed Aunty Elva remarried to Theo Smith, Both passed before Aunty Elva and they are all buried together in Waiuku cemetery
