Edmonds IN Ireland How They Spell the Our Name
source - failte romhat website - Ireland
edmondsallan - Hello - Their has always been controversy over the spelling of the " Edmonds " name . common ones . Edmond / Edmondsun /
Edmondson / Edmund / Edmunds/ Edman < Finland ) / and a few others depending which country . I copied these few sentences from this Irish website and as you can see they spell " Edmonds " as
" Edmundson " which means ' son of Edmunds / Edmonds. I have been for years trying to find on the two main " edmonds " family ancestral lines - how -when- where - it changed . on our side ( if I may use that terminalogy ) the Edmonds name came into being after Prince Edmund started to chop off our heads because we were known as " men of stone " ( quarrie/stonemasons )- had no name and weren't paying or giving him any Taxes ( greedy sw~~`!! Ba~~``** !! ) . on the other line of our family coming thro Switzerland / down the Rhine
River via France / Holland / Denmark / England the named changed frequently from Edmunds / Edmundson / Edmond / Edmonds . I think I am losing the search to distinguish the approximate dates . I guess I'll keep on about this until they put the lid on my box to go up stairs to assist their genealogy department - By the way they- they tell me its outstanding - You don't believe me . Well thats what
" old faithful " told me .When I asked her who told her she said one of the upstairs computer . When I said to her - what aload of " Bull !! " she tore a strip off me - wouldn't do any work for an hour . and then printed out a message . It Read as Follows > " To all believers -
when the boss goes up top I'm going with him I have already had permission from the top man himself !! " Hard to believe A ! A !made me think a bit .The box I go in will have to be altered , some folks are going to question that ?? Yes sir . I wonder what the cost of ink cartridges is up their - they probably get them wholesale - what do you think ? Where were we - okey dokey - see how they spell our name -
1 A list of the Wills preserved at Lisburn in the Records of the Northern Province appears on page 106. Short Abstracts of them are printed in Vol. 2, No. 8, The Irish Genealogist. We also list Wills in the Historical Library, Eustace St.
2 Though the modern practice is to spell the name of the founder Edmondson it appears as Edmundson in some manuscripts. Some descendants in England use the form Edmondson while the Irish branch adhere to the spelling Edmundson.
3 Unfortunatley the keeping of such books lapsed with time, nor does it appear to have been the practice in every meeting in Ireland; for instance at one end of MS. Cork 36 “Minutes of Bandon and the West” is a title page “A Book of Wills and Inventorys” but this is followed by blank pages.
Till we meet again - Regards - edmondsallan
