edmondsallan - good morning to all . In the last Journal " I have an ancestor called --- " we were looking for info' on the " Gan Tuang- Co " family ancestry . We had found some info to exploit . We found out the meaning of his name ,his approximate age , who he worked for & the chinese homeland part . To save us a bit of time , I have already researched this morning some chinese ancestry data. I got back to what I call an " Ancestry building block " these are a starting points , but not proven 100 percent , to go back further or come forward, which ever the researcher may desire . We can use these block in many ways .
( a ) reference - starting point , genealogy bridge - till I find the next step - plus other points . Handy to have on file , especially if I am going to research a particular family . I have used them in a reference way when several families cross the same Ancestral path . They can be very quick to find what we are after . " Gan tuang co " came from a an original family , way way back , Known as " Gan " The oldest record I found so far was as follows-- from the " Ancestry " -- IGI index ( International Genealogical Index / Asia -- " SEE-MING - CAN - B- 1384, MALE - SAI BIN TONG - CHINA // Wife - Mrs See -Ming _ Gan- b- 1386- female Sai Bin Tong -China /// Then their daughter - Miss SEE GAN -b-24th April 1406 & so on and even a couple of Sons . Even though the ancestral line forward deviates a bit we are still migrating towards the east coast of china to Fuzhou . We now go back to the Blog on " Carcar" . What we have just concluded in china , we put in a spacer and put in the back of the working file . dated , where we got the info from or made a copy and put it in the same place ."Carcar , cebu , philippines ," the previously mentioned " Juan Yap " family decided to settle in Carcar. Our young - " Gan- tuang- co " also decided to stay their with them in their employment . our next item , after researching different the " Carcar " Blog we found is as follows -- He became Baptisted in the Catholic Faith- His birthdate on that record ( very hard to aquire ) was his name - given as " Silvestre Gantuangco " ** > notice the surname is as one & is so till the present day <." b- Fuzhou, China 1813 AD ( ** > This an the following was all translated to english , using the net Language translation system ,I have already mentioned .When you strike something like we did , here in spanish - don't be afraid to use it - give it ago - From my own experience I have had a lot of enjoyment breaking thro' < ** ) the other document in Spanish was an official authoritive letter , with all the trimmings , saying - " Silvestre Gantuangco , christened in the Catholic faith , had official permission to permantly remain in the Philippinnes . He became a partner in the " Yap " business enterprise ( they are still going to day in the Philippines & asia- under the same name & are " Multi- billionares ) . In 1833- " Silvestre married " Dona Pauilina Leyson " she was classed as a native of Cebu . Even though her ancestry went right back to Spain . ** > ( we will cover all that later on her side ) They had 3 children - Alberto -b-1834 // Cecilo-b- 1836 // Perfecto -b-1838. ( ** > Cecilo had an illegitimate son - called " Marcio " whom he adopted after he got married & had his family . < ** ) In 1874 " Silvestre Gantuangco " built his first house ,at - " 66 Colon St " .Carcar, cebu .Philippines .
" Juan Yap " then decided" Silvestre " was in a strong Financial position , & they divided the Empire they had both built in Half- . Silvestre Gantuangco < developed their side of the business into a huge land owning empire in the Island of " Cebu " At one stage the " Gantuangco Family " owned over 1/3 third of the land in The Greater Cebu City area . " Wakey wakey !!! have you been really following all , so far . Its all on the net , the history , the lot - to find things out of the early ancestry in Cebu Philippines , we were fortunate to have found someone already researching for years , all about " Cebu " Books have been written about this era . We have just been on the net this morning for 3 hours & what we found out yesterday, we went into Top research Mode and now we got this ancestry pouring out of our ears . From that original " Silvestre Gantuangco " piece of info , we can now come forward to about 1940 from 1384 -- in China .
The " Gantuangco's " coming forward to the time of 1940 all around the world, is now relative easy to find . This selected family ,we used for an exercise in ancestry research needs to be filed in the back of the working file. Some items may need to be copied & placed in the " reference file " for future use . WE can go into more defined detail on this family , as much as you want. However for the purpose , we have used the info for , we now need to tuck The " Gantuangco"s " into bed , in the working file , add another spacer . Mark it in scribble " Spanish ancestry " of " Dona Pauilian Leyson " This will clear our minds- sort of refresh it - as we now don't have to remember any of the other . We can now concentrate on this person's ancestry . We also have got some idea on How to Proceed . Ok . You have all done well . You have patiently followed the approximate steps we need to cover .
