Eljah Gould Massachusetts to Indiana

Elijah Gould was one of my great grandfathers on whom I have little information prior to his indenture in Indiana. Elijah was indentured to William Layton of Tippecanoe County, Indiana. He was indentured at age four, on February, 15, 1840. I think he may have come from Massachusetts, and be the child of Henry Lawrence and Lydia (Howe) Gould. Two other Gould children were indentured in 1839 in Tippecanoe County to a Stafford and a Layton. Can anyone help? Jack

By indentured, do you mean he was a black man?
There was a woman on radio a while back she wrote a book about children (black) belonging to white parents similar to foster or adoption, but, they were considered indentured servants.
