Extract from a Previous Journal on Copyright
Extracted from one of my previous journals - dated 7/9/2007
This was in relation to some one else trying to break copyright on one of the edmonds family books -It may assist some members to understand the copy right laws better . Under nz law as you will read
after 70 years it can be copied. Most countries also allow by law , the article to be copied, providing no monies / business / payment asked for / in general it is allow able if being put on a free website , like our own to assist others - freely. Also if they put the article into the public arena freely the law changes .In my own families case I had renewed the copyright . some members - with respect may need to understand the copyright law in NZ better
The extract as follows
I have since also found out about the " Edmonds Reunion Book " Copyright from the proper authorites . including the National & other Libraries . Because Verna Mossong used a higher percentage of pages than allowed from a previous book lent by the " Edmonds Family " to assist the national Libraries collection of early New Zealanders , although she collated the book( Re reunion ) she cannot hold the copy right . Neither can any one else . If someone wants to do copyright They can do so only 70 years after the death of the original author who collated the original book where material may have been taken from for another book . Their is also only a very small percentage of the original book pages allowed to be copied . So it looks like , Joyce , the National Library of NZ Wellington has kept to the agreement made with us "the Edmonds Family " some time ago and will do so into the future,unless we give our personal authority in writing to release all or part of our Edmonds Family ancestral history ..To do this or get this release ,proof of direct ascendency. must be first attached to the letter to release all or part of the book copies they have .If a new book or upgrading of the old book has material in it from the previous mentioned book , or they have used above the very low percentage of pages allowable . they will be breaking the copyright law & can be sued in a court of law . So you can see Joyce , my fear that someone or a publisher , some day could exploit this ancestral book is now safeguarded. This is also why no other copyright number was issued in regards to this particular book on our personnal " Edmonds Family " etc. I am very pleased that this clarification of copyright has been brought up to date and anyone can read this" Family Tree Article" and now anyone in the world can view it in the world libraries . I know you were interested in the outcome of this matter so all is well.
I am not going to answer comments about this Journal on copy right The reason is ( running scared - NO !!! ) or some other stupid suggestion - NO!!! NO!! - our family has been into court to protect our copy right- once or twice . and the only one who gains are the Baristers / Lawyers ' .
I hope this Journal may assist some people to make sure they understand some of their weaker subjects . You will note I haven't mentioned any words about when a person breaks a fully protected copyright . reason : It may just stop giving others the ammunition to fire at me . With respect to all members this the reason i will not reply to comments on this particular journal

I would just like to personally comment that it would be refreshing to read something new and original for a change instead of information that is readily available on the internet.
How about supplying information on how you have smashed through the brick walls in your family tree? Or how you found a black sheep ancestor for example? Any skeletons in the cupboard? What were the interesting occupations of your ancestors, etc.
Nice going EdmondSallan. You have loaded your journals up so heavily, our new members and members May have difficulty getting theirs on. If they do, they may very well be on page 2 or 3. Why?
Don't you think about all members instead of yourself? You have shown me that you are selfish and self centered! Why? Look at all our dear members that you are crowding out! In two days amd 4 hrs you entered 53 journs with your ID. Come on, give our new members and members space to enter their journals Don't you know that this is very important to them? Hey mate, give some slack! This is not acceptable. Shame on you!

Don't get me wrong. copy and paste is good and necessary. I am not against it. Many of our wonderful researchers do this. My sadness with you EdmondSallan is that you do it to the extreme!! It is sort of like pushing people aside in order to get your two cents worth in.

Sorry bobbylee - I will no longer respond to your comments on any matter including my own journals on this website . You may say anything you like if you wish to . I will not answer you in the future. It will be better for the members on this website and hopefully in some small way settle things down .I hope you do well in days to come .kind regards
I have to agree with Bobbylee... I find the journals posted by our friend edmondsallan to be for the most part information that can be found anywhere on the internet and since thats the case there is really no need for them to be COPIED AND PASTED on this site, especially the HUGE number of journals he posts ... I find the constant barrgae of USELESS INFORMATION, to be quite irritating, since it pushes any legitimate journals to the back pages ...

Hello Boru Have you found those scotch ancestors yet . nearly all the information on the net is freely available to anyone.I would hate to say what isn't freely availabe on all subjects for it on all subjects their isn't to much that isn't ,. The other matters you have mention seem to have a following by members of over ( 25- 30 a day )some times more . Some journals that have nothing to do on family ancestry can some times hit a ( 100 in 3 days ) Hang on a minute Boru - Old faithfully says she has just found your file . She says I am to agree with you . What _! Ok ! I agree with you Boru on the comments you made . With that put aside , all is agreed to , with respect is their anything else . you wish to comment on . your unkind remarks to him in a previous journal entry. I don't hate you Edmond. Just please, leave this dear kind man alone! If you don't have any correct ancestral information to give him, leave this kind member alone. He is a real man with a beautiful family. Boru, I am not speaking for you. No Way! From his written observations, this man is a gentleman. You told me you would not answer me on any website. Why did you give those journal numbers? Again? What is your source on these? You're kind of rambling there ed, your reply is very poorly written ... The problem ed is that this is a GENEALOGY board and you not only do not post anything about Genealogy when you had the ability to do so you attacked people who asked questions about the subject... Resrearching your tree is fun, you need to let people enjoy this board and quit posting dozens of USELESS journals just so you can see your comments on the front page... Nobody dislikes you ed, in fact initially I tried to be friendly, until you attacked me and tried to dictate to me how you wanted me to post journals, I just want to be able to enjoy this board, maybe find a little information out and help others if I can, your behaviour makes that almost impossible...
