Hi All Just looking for any details, I know about his Military service, interestingly I investigated obtaining his medals through Canberra - his had been returned, look carefully at the dates on the envelopes. I am a former serving member but too much paper work to go through. We have just returned from Pozieres where the 28 th Battalion fought -didn't get to Flers where he was shot in the head I do not know much about his life before he enlisted although I know he worked at the Fenian Gold Mine in Meekathara, and possibly in Leonora -I have a postcard he sent to my Great Aunt, Rose - forgot her surname but she was a Curtis, Then nothing after he was discharged although he did go to Adelaide - his Mum was still alive. He had to apply for "sustenance" as his TPI records say he was incapable of any public work. Looks like he managed a property in Safety Bay WA OWNED BY mR Randolph Barnhart. I have a copy of the inquest if anyone is interested, died of fall resulting in broken Thigh and was washed into the creek and was drowned. Again interestingly I lived in Perth , the suburb next to Lesmurdie. I know about Cecily Smith and her two boys -one killed in Greece and the other went down with the Sydney in 1941 I have photos if you need them
Hi Rose Helen Curtis b. 3/6/1893, d. 19/2/73. Buried in West Terrace Cemetery, married Patrick Francis Moran -was a QC.
Her Parents were Thomas Fahey b. 23/12/1854 ( Ireland) and Annie Curtis1/10/1857? or 6, d. 7/12/1931. both buried in WTC,
My Mother is Kathleen Vera Jacobs nee Hewitt, b. 26/3/1914. Gertrude Teresa Fahey however I have the Deed Poll where she has changed her name from Fahey - her mother is Catherine Ann Fahey ,b. 13/2/1874, Father is Robert Augustine Hewitt,
Also Gertrude Teresa Fahey married Herbert Hoskins
So looks like we may not have any connection Cheers Ed
And also do you have a photo of Martin ? I have looked through all the photos of the 28 th Bn but nothing with a name , the best I found was a PE session in Black Hill camp prior to embarking
lol :) I don't 'fit in' Ed, just a Kiwi researcher/genealogist on here who also broadens the horizon at times to include folk across the creek in Oz :)
I will look for a photo. Can you please attach the photo you do have to your original post above. Just go to 'Owner Edit' - scroll down to end to 'Attach an image' then 'Choose File', which will take you to your computer where you click on the photo you want and then down to the very end of this page where it says 'Click to Submit' (forgive me if you already know this) cheers :)
Hi Kiwi Sorry, I only have the photo's of Cecily Smith's two boys, god knows where the photo of the 28 th Battalion group doing PE is, thanks I have only just started again so will try the photo bit if that is what you would like , my sister is the "guru" Cheers Ed

Sorry ngairedith, It should have read Rose Helen Fahey not Curtis in both responses
yes, which is why I didn't put her because she was born a Fahey (Martin's sister) and not a Curtis :)
Hi So where do you fit in ?
