Faircloth of North Carolina and Minnesota

I have been doing genealogy research for a long time. My maternal grandfather's information is as follows: Calvin Talmadge Faircloth, b. 1889; d. 1934; married Harriet Frances Stieren in 1918. I would like to know why he left North Carolina and traveled to Minnesota, where he met my Grandmother and had six children.

I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota the 4th of 7 children. My parents were: Walter Clarence Gadbaw b. 1920 d. 2010 and Shirley Blanch Faircloth b. 1922 d. 1985.
