Ferrier Marriages 1854 1886 Victoria Australia

I don't know if the Ferriers mentioned here are related to William John Ferrier. This Warrnambool fisherman was acknowledged as a hero by the Australian Parliament, the Governor (and all prominent citizens and institutions) of Western Australia etc. for his rescue of two of the La Bella's crew of seven in 1905. The Victorian Government probably made him a lighthouse keeper as a reward and the ship paintings he did inside the Southern pile lighthouse are on the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum website. During the period 1905-1915, he owned 858 Pt Nepean Rd, Rosebud, near the Dromana (McCrae)lighthouse (where the hero was recorded in Trove as presently being on duty in 1907.) When he moved to Queenscliff to resume as a fisherman, he called his house in Beach St "Rosebud". His descendant Lewis Ferrier was regarded as Queenscliff's (unofficial) harbourmaster when its new harbour was opened in 2004.Lew had been a professional fisherman for over 60 years and his fishing boat "Rosebud" played a prominent part in the opening ceremony. Thus the name of Ferrier links the seaside towns of Warrnambool, Rosebud and Queenscliff.

William John Ferrier was my great grandfather. He sounds like quite a character. The Queenscliff Maritime Museum did a display of his pictures earlier this year. It was very interesting.
