Details: Ferris known locally as Wherihi, was possibly the first trader on the East Coast and made his home at Tolaga Bay before Mr Harris was there. He was Captain J.R. Kent's trader. Later the second trader, Burns, arrived but that they were unconnected with each other and in order to keep the peace they were placed at either side on the river. He left no descendants.
