After first fleeter Francis Fowkes was pardoned in 1795 he sailed off to South Africa to live. He was transported here on the Alexander. He had a rather chequered career he began as a midshipman in the navy and fought in the American War of Independance then when he returned to England got arrested for stealing a coat and a pair of shoes. He got 7 years. He was born around 1750 and married a woman called Elizabeth BRAY at Parramatta in 1792.
