See that Lucy Elizabeth Leete
I know there was a Lucy Leete married to Septimus Leete in Kyneton around the 1870's It's quite possible they are Lucy Elizabeth Leete's parents. If you wish to go back that far I can help you there.

The Age, Wednesday 16 December 1914
HUSBAND NEGLECTS HIS FAMILY.
KYNETON, Tuesday.

At the local court to-day, before Messrs.Fix this text
Barlow, T.M., and Thomson, J .P., Lucy
Elizabeth Miller sought an order of the
court to compel her husband, Donald John
Miller, butcher, to support his four chil
dren, aged 1, 3, 4 and 5 years.
Mr. H. J. Armstrong, who appeared for
complainant, stated that defendant drank
the whole of his wages or otherwise fool
ishly disposed of them, and for some time
past had not contributed to the support of
his family.
Defendant: That's a iie.
Mr. Barlow (sternly, to defendant): Keep
silent, or I'll commit you for contempt
of court. I don't think you arc quite
sober.
Mr. Armstrong added that defendant had
frequently come home drunk, and threatened
the lives of his wife and children.
Mrs, Miller's evidence corroborated Mr.
Armstrong's statement.
Defendant said he was quite willing to
support his children, but thought 30/ per
week was excessive.
Mr. Barlow said defendant's conduct was
the most callous that had ever come under
his notice.. He would be ordered to pay
25/ per week towards thc support of his
children, and would be bound in his own
recogizance of £10 and another surety
of £20 to comply with the order.

The Ballarat Courier, Saturday 19 December 1914
BUTCHER COMMITS SUICIDE.
KYNETON, Friday

at 7.30p.m. yesterday the body of a young man named Donald John Miller, a butcher, was found in a paddock near his house at the east end of town.
On Tuesday, on the information of his wife, Miller was brought before the court charged with neglecting to support his children, and was bound in sureties
to contribute 25/- per week towards their support. Twenty-four hours were given him to find the sureties. It is presumed that he was unable to find a surety, and that this and other troubles worried him
to such an extent that he took poison.

Sorry, bindiandbonny. Family history research doesn't always bring good news. We must always be prepared for the two S's the sad and the shocking

tonkin

Well done janilye.

I have posted a few more details on the LEETE lines from Kyneton I researched last year but never posted the details.
See Post: LEETE Septimus married Lucy GREEN 1863.

Hope it helps others researching the lines.
