ABOUT THE GALLOWAYS
Crow Gulch is an area behind Corner Brook on the way to Curling. There were a bunch of homes on the side of a hill which I believe were owned by the Mill in Corner Brook and were rented to the people who worked at the mill. Most of the people who occupied these homes were transient workers. The area is still called Crow Gulch by the locals but it actually is a part of Curling. You have to go down Pier Road to get to what was known as Crow Gulch.There are no homes there any more. The church records in Curling show your Rita Galloway born 23 Sep19 26 in Curling East and baptised on 25 Sep19 26. It also shows Uncle Lawrence born 17 Nov 1924 Curling East. The same church records show Mom born 28 Aug1928 28 Crow Gulch. The records show grandmother born in Carbonear N.L. Carbonear covers several smaller communties such as Hearts Desire, Hearts Delight and Hearts Content so she may have been born in one of these communites. There is no birth certificate in St. John's for her. Grandfather was born in Spainards Bay. He was baptized Thomas Galleghar born 15 Feb 1893. His parents were George Gallegher and Alice Burns. His Godfather was Henry Burn and Godmother Mary Burn[Whalen]. I believe Henry and Alice Burn were brother and sister. I believe his godparents brought him up.Grandmother and Grandfather lived on Belle Island Mine, NL down by St. John's where Grandfather worked in the mill. Several of his children lived there with him,
I live in Three Rock Cove on the Port au Port Peninsula. An hr. west of Stephenville. From Stephenville to Corner Brook is another hrs drive.
