Genealogy Programs
I would like to get some feed back from people on their favorite genealogy programs and why they like them. Been using FMT and at this time I'm unable to pay for Ancestry.com, so looking in my program, it appears that some of the media is now unworkable. Thank you in advance for your responses.
I have been using Legacy Family Tree with I have been very happy with, they all so have free webinars that you can attend online. I'm not sure that it is the best but it is the one that I am most familiar with and I like their support and the community that has grown up around it. They have a great G+ community. Isn't it possible to use FTM offline? I used to be a member of Ancestry but as soon as stopped my membership I could no longer get access to the images I could only see the links - so your problem may not be with FTM but with Ancestry (just a thought to consider) Good luck with your search.
I have also settled on Legacy and am particularly fond of it. It is packed full of features and comes in different languages. Plus, aside from the wonderful free seminars that kerbent mentions above, there are also some excellent add-ons and they are particularly good about listening to their users and implementing user-suggested new features if they realize that it will benefit more people. There is even a button on the application itself which allows you to submit suggestions directly from there.
I started with PAF and used that for several years until I became accustomed to computer-based genealogy and had a list of features that I would want to search for when looking to buy an application. I then first went with FTM, the offline version. So there is one, or at least there was. But when Microsoft launched a new OS, all the dates on FTM started to get messed up. I live in Sweden and it automatically decided for me that I wanted all my formats in Swedish, and didn't offer me a personalization option. I contacted them about this problem but they weren't interested in solving my problem: All they were interested in was convincing to spend more money and to buy a new version of FTM. So I finally ditched FTM. That's when I found Legacy.
