Is this his death?
A WATCHMAN'S LONELY DEATH.
A man named John Marston, an A.B. employed on board the s.s. Tomki, which is lying at Mort's Dock, went on board that vessel yesterday about 7 a.m., and on entering the after cabin was shocked to find lying on the floor of the cab- in, face downwards, the body of the night watch man, George Clancy. He immediately informed the chief officer of the ship. That officer com- municated with the Water Police, who went to the ship, and had the body removed to the Circu- lar Quay Morgue. Clancy was last seen alive about 1.35 p.m. on Saturday by the chief officer,
Edwin Balfour. He was then on board the ship. From the condition of the body, it is believed that he must have been dead many hours. Clancy was employed for many years as chief steward by the North Coast Company, and had lately been, acting as night watchman in the company's ves- sels when laid up for overhauling. He was about 60 years ot age, and had been suffering very much for a long time past from rheumatism. He leaves a wife, and several grown-up sons, who are residing at or near Lismore. He, him- self, had been residing at 233 Kent-street. The deceased was much respected and well known among the shipping community.
