George Howe Cook 1855 1941
edmondsallan - hi , I'm back . hell that lad of ,mine can eat . still he's healthy , thats the main thing .Make him strong so one day he can push my wheel chair . Ha ! Ha !
I find it interesting to note ,that both the older " Cook " boys taught themselves many things . For instance , " Herbert " purchased a set of school books and educated himself . George eventually went to Auckland Grammer school . in between sailing with his father . It was on one of these working trips with his father that "George " junior , met that infamous Gentleman " Bully Hayes " the Pirate & Blackbirder in the Pacific Islands . " George " also had & developed a natural ability to write articles for the NZ Herald under the pen - name " Lone - Handler " , recording information on his early life, whaling & Local history. . They can still be read if you wish to .
" GEORGE HOWE COOK " also served on several whalers . In fact he became first officer of the " Splendid " an Otago based , vessel. He was also the first of many , who harpooned the first whale off the coast of Russell , Bay of Islands . When " George " decided to marry he fell in love with his first cousin " Mary ( Minnie ) Cook . Their wedding took place at Waikare , Bay of Islands - 30th Sept 1896 .ok time to go .
Got to go & get a bite to eat ,if " Honorable Son "hasn't cleaned out the Frig !!! - Till we meet again - regards - edmondsallan
