Great Grand Father Hudson was an Indian Immigrant to Australia

Boarded a ship in Cape town and arrived in SA around 1896. Married in SA then settled in Victoria. His mother was unknown to us and I cannot trace his origins as I do not know anything other than oral history from my grand-mother other than he was born in Calcutta around 1869. Died at 45 years in 1914 in Bairnsdale Victoria. I assume he anglasised his name and Capetown records were subject to a fire. Any ideas how I can trace him? His name changed on different records between Lewis Henry Hudson, Louis Hudson, Harry Hudson (on death certificate) wedding certificate as Lewis Henry Hudson.

Any insights would help tremendously!

I see you posted this message over 2 years ago, however I may be able to help you with information on Harry Hudson (Lewis Henry).
Harry Hudson was my husband's great grandfather as well. I have recently found what I am certain is his entry in to Australia. I also have other information that may be relevant to your research.

Thanks for that...I do have that newspaper clipping. I have quite a lot of information on him. I know carinya's post was a long time ago and after all this time it's probably a long shot that she'll see it, but I've found new information that might be helpful to her. Hopefully she will eventually contact me. :)
