Hannah George Mountain a Son B 1865
edmondsallan - goodmorning - I turned off the alarm this morning , shifted the cat , from my face , sat up and said to myself " It's gonna be a great day . I'm still alive !!! " I thought we would bring the " Mountains " out of the cupboard this morning - ( Not the land kind - The people Kind ) They entered our family tree , thro "Hannah Elizabeth Clapham _( Hannah king Hansens daughter ) who married a " George Plnn Mountain in Sydney / Australia - 1861 at the age of ( 17 ) ". In my previous Journal -Dated - 27/10/2010 I covered , briefly their lives.
Many of our family tree ,will never of heard about the " Mountain Family " and how they were intertwined in our ancestry , Maori & Pakeha in the very early days of the Bay of Islands & Northland in General Their name is not in Our family name index .
" Walter Clapham Mountain " was born in 1865 . His parents were Hannah & George Mountain . ( ** >I quote from a local Northland Newspaper , who published an article when he died . I quote
" Walter Mountain was a man of action , vision ,and chrisma. He was also a man of the Community, both Maori & Pakeha-- un quote , ** )They also published the Maori verse read at his funeral in tribute on the passing on of their " Great Friend " .The Maori Chief of the " Purerua " Tribe ,said the oratation in maori at his funeral . It is very very long . To long to put in this journal . I will write just a very short part of this oratation which after much hard work I translated . It is as follows .
" This is a tribute of sorrowful regard for our beloved friend
" Walter Mountain " who now sleeps his long sleep . This man was also a loyal friend of our parents and was also a loyal friend of ours .Therefore he was considered by us, as our father in connection with our affairs . Our father was deeply versed in the Maori language and our ways .( I'll go to the last sentence ) " Depart hence , O friend of ours , O Walter, to thy place of rest . that is all " - Unquote . Their is much to tell, of this not to well known " Member of our Family Ancestry " I'll take a break & come back - regards -edmondsallan
