Hans Halvorson from Norway

Born 1838. Norway. Lived in Wisconsin and served in Civil war.
His Grandaughter Helen Anderson is my grandmother.
They lived in Broten MN. Any information appreciated.
I know there is a book printed 1994 on Hans journey to America and the name of the ship.
