Has anyone done a Y-DNA test for Rockliff ?

Question by lollyrock

My husbad has tested with FTDNA, Y-DNA, and disconcertingly, no Rockliff/Rockcliffe shows as as a match. I'm beginning to think that one of the Grandmothers must have "jumped the fence" ... !! Has anyone else done Y-DNA with Family Tree ?

Hi, I would be interested in your husbands autosomal test for Rockliff if he has had one on FTDNA as at 66 I have just found I need to look for another father, I have found 5 matches that I do not have as family and they all descend from the Rockliffe or Spurr family in Tasmania or from Yorkshire

Hello Reg.
I have a booklet put out in 1974 by Norman C. Rockliff called "The Rockliff Saga". Charlie is a descendant of Henry Rockliff who married Hannah Spurr of Yorkshire. (later known as the "Skelbrook" Rockliffs in Tasmania.)
Henry had three other brothers who emigrated to Tasmania and had property, ie., "Westfield"; "Springfield"; and "Robin Hood Wells".
Henry was already established in Tasmania, and his bride was sent out to him - his brother William having married her sister and the Spurrs looking like good breeding stock (I assume!).
Henry and Hannah had eight sons and three daughters .. so presumably you descend from one of those !? If you have done Family Finder you might recognise a wife's family name: ie., Francis married Kate Hall; Henry married Alicea Walters; Frederick married Amelia Pickett; William married Tillie Jessup; Charlie married Sarah French (the author's parents); Reuben married Hanna Pearl; Thomas married Ada Wright; Johnie married Eliza Hall; Hannah married Arthur Pickett; Harriet married John Rockliff her cousin from Yorkshire; Mary (Polly) married John Hall.
I can't verify any of the above - it is all from Charles' booklet.
I will now check re that autosomal test ... not sure about that.
Best regards,
Laurel

Ooops. Not "Charlie is a descndeant.." NORMAN is a descendant of Henry Rockliff (it would seem his grandfather. Charlie was Norman's father, and Henry's son)

My husband's FTDNA Kit no. is 335314 ... but I will be surprised if you find a match. He does not descend from any of the other Rockliffs mentioned .. he descends from Henry's cousin John Rockliff, son of William Rockliff and Mary Lawrence. They are not mentioned in the "Rockliff Saga" booklet .. have no idea why. Perhaps they wre the "poor relations" ... !!
