Much is written about Henry J. Niehaus (as he was known), but no written information has been found regarding his wife Mary Magdalena Ebersold.

Henry J. Niehaus was born John Henry Niehaus on September 12, 1875 at Alma, Buffalo County, Wisconsin. (Draft registration card signed September 12, 1918). He was also reported to be born at Waumadee, Buffalo, Wisconsin. (Obit) He was a single, 24 year old School Teacher residing as a boarder in the household of Paul Jost. (1900 Federal Census for Town of Alma, Buffalo, Wisconsin)

On June 7, 1902 Henry Niehaus and Mary Ebersold married on June 2, 1902 in Buffalo County, Wisconsin. (Obit) Two daughters, Margaret and May, were born to that union. (Obit) The family in Alma, Buffalo County, Wisconsin from 1907 to 1922 while he was County Superintendent of Schools. (Obit) They may have lived in Alma for the five years before that, while he taught at the Tell School and the Nelson State Graded School. (Obit) This family of four were living in the city of Alma, Buffalo County, Wisconsin on January 1, 1920 . (1920 Federal Census) The family moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1922 where Henry would hold the positions of Deputy Collector of Internal Revenue and U. S. Court Commissioner until he died. (Obit) Henry J. Niehaus died February 24, 1942 in La Crosse, La Crosse, Wisconsin. (Newspaper tribute)

Mary Ebersold was born November 9, 1875 in Kellogg, Wabasha County, Minnesota. (Church records) She was baptized January 1, 1876 in the St. Felix church, Wabasha, Minnesota. (Church records) She is reported to be a single, 4 year old female, living in Town of Alma, Buffalo County, Wisconsin in the household of her parents June 1, 1880. (1880 Federal Census) Mary Ebersold died in 1943, the year following her husband's death. (Family lore) No official record of her death has yet been found.

Henry J. Niehaus is the husband of my grand aunt Mary Ebersold Niehaus.
