Ann Parkinson, nee Austin's father was Francis Austin. He drowned in 1884. Colonist, Volume XXVIII, Issue 3974, 29 October 1884, Page 3 Our Motueka correspondent telegraphed yesterday afternoon as follows:—" News is just in that the body of Francis Austin, aged between 70 and 80 years, who has been missing since Saturday last, has been found drowned in the Motueka river. The body has been brought to his daughter's (Mrs Edmund Parkinson) residence at Motueka. Deceased left his house up the Motueka river about two o'clock on Saturday, intending to cross the river to proceed to Hodges residence, and it is believed he was thrown from his horse while crossing, the animal being a noted buckeer.' The body was found about a mile lower down than the crossing, in about six feet of water. The inquest will be held at .8 a.m tomorrow.'
