Hilda Helen Elizabeth Foster Harvey M Polglase Nz
Hi, I am looking for Hilda. She was of Channel Island Heritage I think, and she lived in New Zealand and married Thomas Polglase of Pahiatua. She had ten children and died while pregnant with the 11th, some time around 1915. Thanks for any help. I have an idea that her mother's name was Dupre, but I can't varify that.
Thanks

1895/2829 Hilda Helen Elizabeth Foster Harvey Richard Thomas Polglase
hello Janet,
Hilda Helen Elizabeth Foster HARVEY married Richard Thomas POLGLASE on the 6th February 1895
Hilda had a stillborn baby on the 19th April 1917
- (this baby was actually the 10th child)
- Hilda died 6 weeks after that birth on the 3rd June 1917 aged 43
- she is buried in PLOT 4 - GRAVE 37 - BLOCK 2 at Mangatainoka cemetery
Richard remarried on the 10th March 1924 to Violet Jean Sandford
Richard died on the 20th January 1929 aged 53 and is buried in PLOT 3 - GRAVE 7 - BLOCK 2 at Mangatainoka cemetery
Sorry Janet,
It appears that there were 11 children. Not known if 2 of these were to Violet or not as I can only find 9 (& the above child) to Hilda
... found in the EVENING POST on 21st January 1929:
CARRIED OUT BY TIDE Richard Thomas Polglase, aged 54, a tailor, of Pahiatua, was drowned at the Manawatu heads yesterday. Deceased had arrived at Foxton yesterday from Pahiatua with his wife and one child. At about 1 o'clock he went bathing. The tide was going out and there was a strong undercurrent .... deceased leaves a widow and eleven children
thanks so much, Ngaire,
I knew about how my great grandfather died, but I had only recently heard that Hilda died around the time of a childbirth. I think Violet and Thomas only had one child, a son. I have more infor on that. I live in the US but am going home in a couple of weeks - so thanks for hte grave site numbers, I will go and see them. Also, I have met a road-block going back further in Hilda's line. She was never talked about in our family, and all I know is that she spoke French, and if I remember right, that she was a Channel ISlander.
So, Thank you sooo much for your response, it has helped put the pieces together.
Thanks, Allycat, I am on it!
My mother-in-law is also a Hilda, and named after her grandmother, Hilda Helen Elizabeth. She was Hilda’s daughter, Florence’s eldest daughter. She’s 92 and still with us. Florence had 8 children (4 boys and 4 girls) and 3 of the girls are still alive.
