Hipkin Family from England
Hi, my grandfather is JACK HIPKIN who married my grandmother MELVA LORIS neeLUDERS both are now deceased, there children are LORIS, LENA and HAROLD. HAROLD is my father who prefers to be called MARTIN. LORIS has two girls, LENA has three boys and dad has two girls and two boys. I know that grandad moved to New Zealand from England but i don't know when, i have grown up in New Zealand.
I would like to know my family tree, did grandad have any brothers and sisters. I would like to go back in the family tree as far as possible. I do know somewhere in the family tree our name changed from HIPKINS to HIPKIN does anybody know why.

Hi,
The earliest NZ Electroral Roll date I can see for a Jack Hipkin is 1928.
1928, Bay of Plenty general roll.
Hipkin, Jack, Tiniroto, stationhand.
There was also a David Stockdale Hipkin on the same Electoral Roll.
1928, Bay of Plenty general roll.
Hipkin Howard Stockdale, Waimata, fencer.
There was a Jack Hipkin born in 1907 in England which may not be him though, but if it was your Jack on the 1928 NZ electroral roll he probably would have been at least 21 so the 1907 might be good!
Jack Hipkin
Jul-Aug-Sept Quarter 1907.
District; North Bierley.
County: Yorkshire-West Riding.
Reg: Volume 9b page 172.
There was a Howard Stockdale Hipkin born in 1899 in the same County as Jack Hipkin. Could Howard be Jack's brother?
Howard Stockdale Hipkin.
Jan-Feb-Mar Quarter 1899.
District: Leeds (1837-1929)
County: Yorkshire West Riding.
Reg: Volume 9b page 512
A Howard S Hipkin served in WW1 in the British Army.
Howard S Hipkin, Regimental Numbers 1991, 150781 served in the 3rd Co of London Y, Machine Gun Corps.
If this is the same Howard Hipkin then he came to NZ after 1918 and if he was Jack's brother maybe they came out together. Just a theory.
Regards
Gerry.

According to the Birth, Death & Marriage - Historical Records of New Zealand online, there have been HIPKINS families in New Zealand since the 1880s. It's possible that this is your late grandfather's death record:-
1966/28823 Hipkin Jack 58Y.
If so, you can safely and securely order a Death Certificate for 26.50. Usually more information is contained on death certs but are only as reliable as the informant.
