How on Earth Do I Research the Surname Scott IN Scotland
My maternal great-grandparents emigrated to New Zealand, via Melbourne - where they were married in the Scots Church ... but I can't trace them beyond there. Any suggestions how to find a specific Scott in Scotland would be appreciated.
hello deibo29 - go to > familysearch.org < > click on IGS
( international genealogical index ) > you can put in just the surname at first at top first to see whats their and later put in whole name > in region put in British Isles - in country put in Scotland > if you know the county put it in county . their is over 5,000 entries under the name of " Scot " . Go slow select what you want to go back to ( write down the number ) Better allow a lot of time . Good hunting - Regards - edmondsallan
Go to Scotlands People if you have the area Joan
That's a tough one, almost as hard as 'badger' trying to find Smith in Scotland. The only way I see it is if you could get hold of the immigration records from Scotland to Melbourne then you will find in those the place of origin and date of birth and often place of birth.
