Here's his obituary which explains where he came from, it was in digital so hope I translated it correctly:-

There passed away at a late hour on Wednesday night one of the oldest resident of Ulverstone, in the person of
Mr. Frank Boyles. The late Mr.Boyles came to Ulverstone about 45 years ago, having spent his earlier years in South Afrlca, and while there was engaged in at least one of England's little wars.He was for many years In the volunteer force of Tasmania, and was a consistently. good shot and a most enthusiastic rifleman until his sight began to fail. He was of a somewhat retiring disposition, and took little part in public affairs, but was known as a man of up right and sterling qualities. He was in his 76th year, and leaves a widow and grown-up family. Two of the sons, Charles and Bert fought in the late war.
