I have an Alexander Thomson Gollan who was born about 1843. He may have landed in Auckland 1877 on the 'Plymouth'. The passenger list does not have son John. This Alexander died at his sister's home in West Tamaki (Auckland) on 20 Aug 1903 aged 60 If there is a possibility he is 'yours' I can look further
Just read your second message and it looks as if the Alexander and John you are researching are the ones in my tree. My relationship with the Gollans is that my grandmother Grace Woolcock's sister. Elizabeth Jane Woolcock married Alexander Gollans brother, Donald, b 1852.
Our Alexander Gollan was married to Jane Wright, they had four children. William died aged 26yrs and buried in the Rookwood cementry Australia. John was born in Scotland march2nd. 1875he is the one I am trying to find.Euphemia was born in Lyttelton NZ 1878 and our grandfather Richard Vicers was born also in Lyttelton in 1880.Jane is buried in the Rakaia Cementry.Alexander remarried in 1891 in Westport to a Beatrice Hill. She maried again in 1900 to a Joseph Ballard. We think our Alexander and John may have followed William to Australia. The Alexander Thompson Gollan that has posted on our Tree is no relationto our family at all.
I could not find any information for John other than what I have in my Tribalpages tree. Neither can I find death details for Donald who married my great Auntie. Appears there might have been an exodus overseas.
