I am trying to locate decedants of Arthur Edward Dodson and Ada Lavina...

Journal by caz45

I am trying to locate decedants of Arthur Edward Dodson and Ada Lavina White. My grandfather Arthur Dodson was born in 1901 but I cannot find a birth certificate or any mention of him in the family.
He married my grandmother Amy Adams in 1923 and had two children, my father Arthur b 1924 and Albert b 1926. They were divorced somewhere between 1930 - 1935, that is all the information I have

I am hoping someone can give me more information.

Welcome caz45, What country was Arthur born in?

Hi Janilye, Australia. He was born in Collingwood Victoria and later moved to Murrumbeena.

I'll have a look around and see what I can find.
In the meantime I think this may be his death in 1969

Treat the above carefully because I think it is the death of this one below born in NSW. I will search further. Just our luck if there were 2.
How sure are you about the Collingwood birth?

According to the Victorian Electoral Rolls of 1931, 1937, 1942, 1949, 1954, 1963, in the electorate of Corio/Lalor sub division of Sunshine. Arthur Edward DODSON a turner by trade was living at 51 Hampshire Rd, with Emily Irene. In 1968 he appears without Emily Irene on the roll but at the same address. On this same roll in 1968 at 1 Gertrude St., is Derrick James DODSON a draughtsman. Norman DODSON a Rubber worker and Lucy Mary DODSON a school teacher. At 18 Hill St., is Durrell DODSON (f) an assistant.
The above is the only Arthur Edward DODSON listed on the Victorian Electoral Rolls.

Thanks very much Janilte but its the wrong Arthur. The confusing part is that his father was Arthur Edward but he died in 1926. I have all the info on the family going back to the 1600's except for my Arthur. I have a copy of his marriage cert. listing his parents as Arthur Edward Dodson & Ada Lavina White. That is the only record I can find.

Well, at least we've got that one out of the way.
He didn't vote in Victoria using the name Arthur Edward. I'll keep looking.

I found the father Arthur and Ada Lavina living at Centre Rd., Bentleigh. in 1914 He's listed as a bricklayer also at the same address Horace Dodson. also a bricklayer, Rubina Ivy May and Amy Ivy. Father dropped the Edward. Maybe son Arthur took up bricklaying too.
We've got a couple of other members in here who are pretty good at hunting down Victorian records. They may find a clue for you.

Thank you so much. Arthur was a jeweller and lived at 37 Shepparton Ave Murrumbeena at the time of his marriage. The family members that I have recently found had no idea Arthur existed until I contacted them. I think there was a scandal when Arthur and Amy seperated, my sister and I think she commited adultery as she married his best friend after the divorce.
It would be great if you can find Arthur for me.

Sorry I forgot to add that they married in Carnegie on Sept 1st 1923 and I think they divorced between 1934-1940 if that helps.

I have an Arthur Dodson in my tree. He was the third husband of my great grandmother. Arthur Dodson married Gladys May Keating b.1908 (Nee Foreman, previously Veitch) in Kiama, NSW in 1952. He died in Bulli, NSW 1978. On his death certificate on NSW BDM his mother is listed as Ada. I have been told by family that he had previously had a family in Victoria, that he left behind. He was my pop's step father, I think I could find a couple of photo's if you think this is a match for your Arthur Dodson? I wonder if you have made any progress, since posting on this board? Kind Regards, Emma
