The history of the Hiscox family in New England starts with Rev. William Hiscox, of Newport RI, who was born in 1638, and his son Rev. Thomas Hiscox. Information on William and Thomas is very easily found on the internet by searching Seventh day Baptist or Sabbatarian Church. What I do have so far is compiled below from various sources.
The LDS site has William born in 1658 at Newport RI. and married to Rebecca about 1686. She is also listed as being born in RI. about 1656 In 1671 William is listed as a Freeman was a Juryman on Jun. 7, 1671 and was General Treasure in 1703-4
On Dec. 23, 1671, William, along with a small group of seven consisting of; Samuel Hubbard, Samuel's, wife Tacy Cooper, their daughter, Rachel, Roger Baster, Stephen Mumford and wife broke away from the Baptist church and formed the First Seventh Day Baptist Church in Newport RI., The first of its kind in New England.
William became the first pastor of the church and is said to have been a man of great ability and sterling integrity. Under his leadership the church grew rapidly. A number of this group moved to Westerly on the mainland, previously known as Misquamicutt. After thirty three years of service to the church, William died May 24, 1704. Previous to becoming a Seventh Day Baptist, William had been chosen, by the baptist church to defend their faith in open discussion with the puritan leaders in Boston. William is buried in Newport.

Thomas was a cordwinder by trade. He removed to Westerly and was a Freeman there in 1709 and served as Town Treasure from 1712 - 1772. He became a Deacon of the church in 1716 and also served as the church clerk. He was a Deputy in 1714, 18, 20, 26, 27, 34, 36, 39, 40, and 41 as well as the Town Clerk in 1716. He also served as justice of the Peace. In 1727 we was confirmed as Elder of the church, having been chosen eight years before and in 1750 was called to assist Joseph Maxson in his pastorate. He also was evangelist and traveled around the country with others to spread the word of the church.

Notes for Elizabeth "Betsey" Burdick: Obituary. In the town of Lincklaen, N. Y. , after years of decline, Betsy Burdick Coon, the widow of Clarke Coon, departed this life, Nov. 16, 1887.

She was the daughter of Kenyon and Nancy Hiscox Burdick. Sister Coon was born in Westerly, R. I., April [1]6, 1799. She was one of 11 children; only one survives her. At the age of 16 she gave her life to the service of God, was baptized by Eld. Satterlee and united with the DeRuyter Seventh Day Baptist Church. 54 years ago she, with her husband, united with the Lincklaen church of which she remained a faithful member till called up higher. She was the mother of five children, two boys and three girls. One son died in childhood. Pres. W. C. Whitford's wife, her daughter, died in her young womanhood.

Sister Coon has been an earnest worker in her home, in the community, and in the church. She was always helpful in sickness. During her Christian experience of nearly 73 years she was ready to testify of the love of God. Six years last May she bade adieu to the companion of her earthly pilgrimage, since which time she has had the tender care of her two devoted daughters. The church has lost a mother in Israel, the community a true friend, and the children a kind and loving mother. Her funeral was held in her home Sabbath, the 19th, text Rev. 14:13. Her Father's place of birth is listed as Kentucky while her mother's is Vermont. This does not match with the information I have but it is strange that she was in Cherokee, with Hiscox as her name and is not related. She spoke English, was a dressmaker, she did not work and had not worked in 1909. She could not read nor write. Iowa Census microfilm roll # 396 for 1910. Date of Census April 20, 1910. Supervisors District # 11; Enumeration # 16; Sheet # I A. Enumerator: Mathew N. Voldene. Their children were: Abel, Jonathan, Daniel, John, Sarah (Mrs. Gavitt), and Nancy, who died in early womanhood. Daniel Larkin, also born in Westerly, settled as a farmer in his native town, and married Rhoda, daughter of Samuel Sheffield of the same county and town. Their children were: Daniel F., Samuel S., Charles A., Jonathan, George F., Elthan P., Stanton, Susan E. (wife of Joseph T. Ross), Sophia (married to Joseph C. Crandall), and Jane (wife of William H. Cottrell). The eldest of these children, Daniel F. Larkin, was born on the 10th of June, 1817, and passed his early years in the town of Westerly, with which the family have for generations been identified. Receiving a common school education, he was, on attaining a suitable age, apprenticed to the trade of a ship carpenter, which, with intervals devoted to other pursuits, he followed until 1860. The year 1838 found him in Middlesex county, Va., engaged in the construction of a brig, which was on completion brought north. The following year again proved a favorable one for the pursuit of his trade at this point. The winters from 1840 to 1854 inclusive were spent in marketing and fish dealing in Savannah, Ga., after which he settled at Watch Hill, resumed his trade, and received the appointment as keeper of the Watch Hill light house. Mr. Larkin determined, in 1868, to fill the role of a popular landlord, and began the erection of what is now the most important summer hotel at Watch Hill, the Larkin House, which has since that time been enlarged, greatly improved, and is now double the capacity of the original structure. With this house and its success his name has been chiefly identified. Mr. Larkin in 1876 again transferred his business relations to the South, and erected a winter hotel at Palatka, Florida, which he managed successfully until its destruction by fire, in 1884, since which time his interest has centered at Watch Hill. A republican in his [342] political convictions, he has for several years served in the town council, and was in 1857 elected to the state legislature, to which office he was re-elected for successive terms, and again for the year 1873. In 1884 he received the important appointment as one of the commissioners to effect a settlement of the questions involved in the boundary line between Rhode Island and Connecticut. Daniel F. Larkin was [sic] on the 19th of October, 1840, married to Martha, daughter of Clark Hiscox, of Westerly. Their children are: Frank, married to Jessie Cheesbro; Daniel W., whose wife was Josephine Cary; Martha J., wife of Amos D. Allen; and Sarah E., wife of F.S. Aldrich. The Larkin House as it appeared in the 1884 Bird's Eye View of Palatka. Although it survived only eight years the Larkin House has become one of the more famous structures in Palatka's history. The hotel was the most prestigious address prior to the rebuilding of the Putnam House in 1885. Its waterfront location, boathouse and docks, cupola, and imposing size all contributed to its attraction. The hotel, designed by Jacksonville architect R. N. Ellis for Daniel Franklin Larkin, was built in 1876. Actual construction was carried out by Clarence H. Reid and W. E. Hogg working under a contract that paid them $2,900.00. Daniel Franklin Larkin was born in Waverly, Rhode Island on June 10, 1817. He served as keeper of the lighthouse at Watch Hill, Rhode Island from 1861 until 1868. In 1868 he built, in partnership with Harvey and William Chapman, a hotel in Watch Hill that was named the Larkin House. This hotel, after some enlargement, could house 260 guests. In 1874 Larkin, according to one source, came to Palatka and purchased a one-half interest in the Putnam House but sold his interest in 1875. One year later he built the Larkin House in Palatka in the middle of the waterfront block on which sat the Presbyterian Church. In the summer of 1883 the hotel was expanded with the addition of a wing containing forty-five rooms bringing the hotel's capacity to 300 guests.

Generation 6 (con't)the hotel's capacity to 300 guests. On the night of November 7, 1884, a devastating fire destroyed a large section of downtown Palatka including the Larkin House. Its loss was estimated at $110,000 for which only $63,000 was covered by insurance. It was reported that the hotel took only twenty minutes to burn down once the flames reached it. Larkin did not rebuild in Palatka. He continued to actively run the Rhode Island Larkin House until he retired in 1890. Subsequently, the hotel was run by his son Frank Larkin until it was sold. Daniel Larkin died at his hotel on the morning of July 31, 1900. The Larkin House at Watch Hill was razed in 1906.

J. D. Hiscox, proprietor of the North La Crosse Livery Stable, and also of the confectionery store on the corner of North Third and St. Andrew's Streets; has been a resident of La Crosse since Nov., 1854; he was born July 9, 1832, in Westerly, R.I., son of Joseph Hiscox, who is still living at Westerly, 82 years old; he was engaged in merchandising, and J.D. was engaged in same business, and has followed it ever since, coming to Wisconsin in 1854.
He was married in Norwich, Conn. (while living in R.I.), to Mary D. daughter of Lyman Black, of Windham, Conn.; he was on the South Side 3 years, and since that has resided in North La Crosse.
He has 2 children; George O. married and firing on the C., M. & St. Paul RR; Charles Irving (single) clerking at the Round House in North La Crosse.
