Thank you so much. Knight Henry Watson was my mother's father. Knight Henry married Gladys Emily Maud Potts in 1923 (I believe in Perth). Their daughter was my mother, Margaret Mary Watson, who married my father Elbridge Winthrop Staudt in Southern California. I'm their first child, born 13 months later in Oakland, California.
Perhaps because Knight Henry died so young or for other reasons, I never heard much about my mother's side of the family, except that they were English emigrants to Australia. I'm so pleased to have this information. My mother had a half sister, whose first name is Elizabeth and whose middle name might be Jane. Her father was Edward F. White, whose father was Dr. A. T. White, whom Gladys married in 1932.

26th June 1928,The Argus CONVICTION QUASHED. Motorist Not to Serve Sentence Before Judy Moule in General Sessions yesterday, Knight Henry Watson com- mercial traveller of Doona street Kew, appealed againbt a sentence of 14 day's imprisonment imposed upon him by the City Court Bench on a charge of having been drunk while in charge of a car on April 4. Mr Nolan ( Crown prosecutor) appeared for the Crown and Mr L. B. Cussen (instructed by Mr. C Barnett) appeared for Watson. A number of witnesses gave evidence that they had seen Watson on April 4 shortly before he was arrested and that he waa not under the influence of alcohol. He looked very ill. Dr. Thwaites medical practitioner, of Malvern road Armadale, said that he was treating Watson for insomnia, and had prescribed a drug the effects of which might easily be felt for 30 hours. The fumes of this drug might be mistaken for these of alcohol. Watson on oath said that he suffered from insomnia and that he had been taking a drug to cure the complaint. He had three glasses of beer on April 4. Judge Moule in quashing the convic- tion, said the Watson would be given the benefit of the doubt

Thanks so much again. That November 21 birth in San Francisco is me, Virginia Anna Faber (nee Staudt), though I was actually born in Oakland, CA. Very sad to read about Frank Wentworth Watson and of the effort George Knight Watson made to learn news of him. I didn't know G K Watson had remarried or that Knight Henry had half brothers.
re: my mother's birth date, as noted by Tonkin, we always celebrated in on June 6th, although she did say the hospital had made a mistake and that she'd really been born on the 7th. It was a bit confusing though, and I'm not sure she really understood it herself.
I met Edward Francis White ("Ted")and knew about my grandmother's remarriage to him. I'm having a very hard time, though, finding information about my mother's half sister, Elizabeth (possibly Jane) White; possibly born on August 13 or 15 1934. She is I believe still alive.

Thank you so much. I knew nothing of these extended relations--my grandmother's siblings and aunts and uncles. I especially loved the newspaper report of the wedding of my mother's aunt, at which my mother was one of the bridesmaids. I wonder what happened to poor old Elsie Potts.

Thanks so much again.

CONVICTION QUASHED.
Motorist Not to Serve Sentence
Before Judy Moule in General Sessions yesterday, Knight Henry Watson com- mercial traveller of Doona street Kew, appealed againbt a sentence of 14 day's imprisonment imposed upon him by the City Court Bench on a charge of having been drunk while in charge of a car on April 4.
Watson on oath said that he suffered from insomnia and that he had been taking
a drug to cure the complaint. He had three glasses of beer on April 4.
Judge Moule in quashing the convic- tion, said the Watson would be given
the benefit of the doubt

AN APPLICATION FOR ADJOURMENT
Mr. Walter James appeared for the plaintiff in the case George Pendergast v. The Adelaide Steamship Company, in which £1,000 was claimed for damages for alleged negligence of or nuisance caused by defendants, and applied for an adjournment of the hearing. He said he had received a telegram intimating the inability of the principal witness to attend
Mr K. S. Haynes, who appealed on be- half of the defendants, objected to the
adjournment unless the plaintiff, as was 0n usual in such circumstances, paid costs.
Mr. James said the adjournment had
been rendered necessary through the ill- ness of the witness, and he submitted the practice of the applicant paying costs did not apply.
After argument, his Honour adjourned the hearing until May 25, the parties
agreeing to argue the question of costs, defendants to be in no manner prejudiced by the application.

Mother's locket
IT'S quite the fashion for the modern bride to wear something worn by mother on her wedding day. Miss Joan Potts decided to wear the silver locket her mother had worn on her wedding-day for her marriage this evening to Mr. A. W. Mortimer in St. Mary's Church.
Colin-street. The bride is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Potts, of Mt. Lawley, and the bridegroom the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mortimer, of Mt. Lawley. Blameless Life – Till One Small Lapse!
A bottle of pickles worth 3/3 cost Elsie May Potts, 54 of Angelo-st., South Perth, £15 this week. That was the fine on a shoplifting charge she faced. Evidence was given that Mrs. Potts was a widow with comfortable means, had no need to shoplift, did not know why she had. She stood with face averted during the short Police Court proceedings, a woman without a previous conviction Mrs. Potts did not know why she had lifted a bottle of pickles
Thank you so much. I knew nothing of these extended relations--my grandmother's siblings and aunts and uncles. I especially loved the newspaper report of the wedding of my mother's aunt, at which my mother was one of the bridesmaids. I wonder what happened to poor old Elsie Potts.
Re reference to 'Gertrude Hyacinthe Black'. I believe this to be incorrect and should read 'Gertrude Hyacinthe Brack'. Gertrude was the grand-daughter of John Brack (a blacksmith) and Elizabeth Wardell Their son, John Brack married Sarah Elizabeth Gillard. This couple had a number of children one of whom was Gertrudre Hyacinthe born September 1882, Mile End, London. Gertrude married George Knight Watson at St John's church, Perth, Western Australia 30/10/1905. They had three boys, Walter Carbutt Watson (15/8/1906-23/9/2001) Cecil Mumby Watson (1/7/1909-2/4/2005) and George Durbar Watson (14/12/1911-12/12/1942).
