Iliffe Families of Hinckley Leicestershire

I'm digging into the Iliffes of hinckley and nuneaton: any help or questions gratefully received!

If you are a member of Friends Reunited - Genes Connected, you could have access to my family tree which includes Iliffes. Although some members have contacted me reference Iliffes - Nuneaton, I haven't been able to establish a link to that stream, only Hinckley. My husband's grandmother was Sarah Wells (nee Iliffe).

I realize this post is a year old but hoping you will see this. I too know there is a connection to Sarah Iliffe in my family (mom was an Iliffe). What were Sarah's parents' names??? Were they Edmund Cleveland Iliffe and Sarah Grewcock??

Hi, yes Edmund Cleveland Iliffe although I have Harriett Cheetham as the mother. Edmunds mother was called Letitia Cleveland. My husbands cousin is called Brian Cleveland Wells; it seems there are other relatives with Cleveland as the middle name. I am interested in hearing your info! Regards Valerie

Hi: I am also researching this family. My grandfather was Albert Cleveland Iliffe (born 1891). What puzzles me is this: It seems that the Cleveland name goes back to the 1600s when William Henry Iliffe (1625-1688) married Elizabeth Cleveland, daughter of the Vicar of Loughborough and sister of John Cleveland, the Royalist poet. If the Iliffe pedigree in Nichols' History of Hinckley is right then only one daughter, Elizabeth, survived to adulthood and none of the boys. William then married Dorothy Bradgate and so all of the male Iliffes came from this latter line. So, why reference the Cleveland name so far back? And of a different family line? Of course, it could be that it was a relatively illustrious connection but still . . . I'd be grateful for any suggestions

Any information on the Cleveland middle name gratefully received, as you can see above, my husbands cousin is called Brian Cleveland Wells, their grandmother was Sarah Iliffe (from Hinckley) married to William Wells.
