They had eight children the Eldest being Donald Bain b 1822 Lock Carron. The family eventually moved to New Zealand where they settled in Burke's Pass running a hotel I have conflicting dates of birth for the first Donald Bain some records say 1787 others say 1805.

I have 1787 birth for Donald, and a marriage date of 6 March 1821. Donald (born 1822) did bring the family to NZ where they had a farm, Highfield. His son John (born 20.10 1863) married Ellen BURGESS whose family did run the Burkes Pass Hotel for a number of years. Ellen and John later ran the Hotel at Cricklewood. I am the great-grandaughter of Ellen and John through their son John and his son Colin.

Yes, we would be cousins. My Grandad was John Burgess Bain - Tom's youngest brother. My dad, Colin, had a garage in Timaru for a few years. I have a bit of Burgess information with them settling in Rangiora after coming from Manchester in England in 1851.
