Information Wanted for Zachariah Thompson

Desperately searching for information on Zachariah Thompson b: 1847, Pittsylvania, VA who married Mary (Minnie) Simmons. Have found Census that may link Zachariah to John Thompson and Nancy Lea of NC. The thompson's line extends from NC, so this is possibly the correct family but we need more info in order to ensure this link is correct. Can anyone help?
