Is there a reliable list of confederate deaths that took place during the American Civil War?

Question by kbitznelson

I have a George Davis McDonald, b 1861 Kentucky whose father possibly died in the Civil war. His mother, Louisa (Eliza) Morris is with him in 1870 census in Hickman, Ky. The family story is that his father, possibly named George as well, died shortly after the Battle of Shiloh and was from Scotland. I can find no guardianship records related to the family or marriage record for Louisa Morris and a McDonald with any given name.
