General History - Originally " Soloman & his family "settled in
Ireland for about ( 4 ) years, then shifted to
London - England
Joel Samuel Polack worked for the English " War
Office " for ( 4 ) years before leaving to
go to America .
1830 - Joined his brother ' Abraham ' in New South
Wales . Australia
New Zealand History -
1831 - arrived in New Zealand & settled in Hokianga
after exploring Poverty Bay & East Cape
In 1832 He moved to " Kororakea ( Now Russell)
in the Bay of Islands establishing a very
successful " General Store
1835 He built the first NZ Brewery . He returned
to England in 1838. His store was burnt down
twice , second time in 1845 when Hone Heke was
attacking northern areas
1845 "Joel Samuel Polack "moved to Auckland where
he operated a " Bonded Warehouse " and also
branched into shipping , trading with
California. America . He also was vice
Consul for the United States of America from
1845 - 1848
1850 He left NZ
1882 " Joel Samuel Polack " died ,17th April 1882 .
He was buried in "Laurel Hill cemetery and
later shifted to " Cypress" cemetery in USA. -
Of Interest - In my research I have been unable to find any
connection with the Edmonds Family Tree . Their
is a story , a rumor that I followed
unsuccessfully , that while he was living in NZ
, he was living with a girl named " Miria " (
surname not known from the Ngapuhi Local
Tribe . It was also Rumoured that they had a
child . I have been unable to prove any of
these Rumors / Stories
Researcher's comments-The reason I wrote this journal on this Person
" Joel Samuel Polack " was because when we go
further into his stay in NZ, he was well
known to our " Edmonds Ancesters " and we had
business dealings with him
