If you put a search for John Cecil Rogers into freebmd.org there is only one that comes up in the correct time frame: Registered March 1879 at Winchester (2c 117). Might be worth getting his birth cert to check it out?

Nell comes up in marriage details as Ellen Kathleen T E Allen, marriage registered: Sept 1903 at Holborn, (1b 1478) you might get something unexpected by looking at the witnesses.

There is a birth of a John Cecil Rogers registered in June 1904 at Fulham (1a 190) and I assume this must be their first child, who possibly appears on your list as Jack??

Does this help at all?

Well this is fabulous! I'll have a look.

I think you will need to send for copy certificates, but you can do that on-line using the references I have supplied - unless you have a subscription to Ancestry or findmypast.

I did look at findmypast for the death registration but there are too many possibilites for me to be able to speculate.

Thank you. This is a full time job so I won't subscribe to anything just yet. I need to ensure I have the time to put into it. I'll speak to my uncle. He is only 70 and has a fantastic memory so he might remember details about his grandad that he didn't think important to tell me before now. I'm in Australia but I do have a daughter living in England this year so she may be able to do some ground work if I need her to. I also need to buy software so that I can start populating my family tree! After looking for other branches using the sites you recommended I put a few more pieces together aswell.

That is good.

For findmypast you can buy units rather than spend out a lot in one go on a subscription, but of course it DOES work out more expensive in a very long run.

If your Uncle can take you back a few generations then you should also look at familysearch.org which is a goldmine for many people.

Good luck............
