John Ford Abbeyfield Quandary

Genealogists say my ancestor, the John Ford who emigrated to Virginia around 1642, was the son of the Abbeyfield Fords. (You will have read the rather fanciful story of his abduction from Ireland at age 8, which raises a host of questions down the line.) His father was John, his mother, the strangely named β€œthe Princess.” The pedigrees take his line back a few more generations, also at Abbeyfield. If these Fords were actually at Abbeyfield, I assume they are a branch of the Forde Green Fordes owned owned land and houses in many places in Staffordshire, and Cheshire.” If so, who was the first Ford to move to Abbeyfield (when did they drop the β€œe”)?
