John Francis O'Donnell who married Julia Power circa 1885

Journal by LittleBoat

JF O'Donnell is my great grandfather - his father was Frank O'Donnell and his mother Ellen Peoples - I'd really like to know when and how he came to New Zealand in about 1866.

John & Julia married 15 April 1883

Did he come over with his parents? or by himself?

Their children were
1884 - Ellen O'Donnell
1886 - 1889 Frank O'Donnell
1888 - 1889 John O'Donnell
1890 - Kathleen O'Donnell (possibly)
1894 - John O'Donnell (possibly)
1896 - Angela Adele (not, possibly adopted)

Frank & John at Mount Street, Wellington
Do you know where Francis & Julia are buried, or at least their birth dates/ages?

Think they may have lived in Nelson for a time but cannot find Julia there?
I will wait for some dates from you

Yes that's them. Angela is my grandmother, John Francis born Donegal 1840 died 1913 buried in Nelson cemetery, Julia born Killkenny Ireland 1862 came to Huntly to be with her 3 daughters and died in 1942. She's buried in Kimihia Cemetery Huntly.
Thanks

awesome, thanks
every little thing helps

so .. am I looking for Francis coming over on his own? or with parents do you know

by LittleBoat on 2019-04-19 13:38:44

On his own I believe. He was about 26 when he arrived and married Julia when he as 43 and she was 20. My aunt thinks he may have been gold prospecting.

Sorry I got a little sidetracked, will have to get back to the ship search tomorrow ..

3 hour old Peter Francis Lynch (1940) is buried with Julia. He was 1 of 7 children of William Joseph 'Bill' (1911-2001) & Cynthia Margaret 'Peg' (1920-1988) Lynch, of Tregoweth Lane Huntly (house now demolished), but who were they to Julia?

Interesting because Julia's daughter Ellen married Richard Harold Tregoweth, which no doubt you know

by LittleBoat on 2019-04-19 20:33:04

Peg Lynch is Julia's granddaughter, her mother is Aunt Nell (Helen) my great aunt. The Lynch family and the Tregoweth family lived side by side in two cottages on Tregoweth Lane.
I didn't know about baby Peter Lynch being buried with Julia, there is no plaque as far as I know. What about the dates though ? She didn't die till '42.

Julia died 1 Sep 1942, it was her great grandson, Peter Francis Lynch who was born & died 11 Dec 1940.
This is their headstone which I added the info to last night
