EVENING POST, VOLUME CXXXVII, ISSUE 71, 24 MARCH 1944
OBITUARY
L.A.C. Alexander Yule McKenzie, whose death has occurred in Wellington Hospital, was the grandson of Mr. Alexander Yule, one of the Scottish immigrants who arrived in Wellington on the Bengal Merchant in 1840. Born at Ashhurst 64 years ago, L.A.C. McKenzie spent his early life in Palmerston North. A keen athlete, he represented Manawatu at Rugby football in 1903. Too young to be accepted for service in the Boer War, he made his own way to South ,Africa and: enlisted there, serving as L/Sergeant in Bethune's Mounted Infantry, and in the Petersburg Light Horse from March, 1901, until July, 1902. In the Great War he was quartermaster farrier sergeant of the Wellington Mounted Rifles in Egypt but was returned to New Zealand through ill health towards the close of 1915. Keen to serve again in the present war he made unavailing efforts to get overseas, and ultimately joined the R:N.Z.A.F., serving on various stations until his death., He is survived by seven children, his son; Colin, being at present on active service in Italy, and by four grandchildren.
EVENING POST, VOLUME CXXVIII, ISSUE 3, 4 JULY 1939
Alexander Yule McKenzie, a seaman, was fined 10s in default 48 hours', imprisonment, for his second offence of drunkenness by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today.
Now you know, like many sailors, he liked a bit of a drink ;)
Gee 10 bob's a bit harsh
Thank you very much for your information. I was not aware that Colin had a second name. Colin died 10 Jan 1889 and was buried 10 Jan 1889. Helen/Ellen died 10 Jan 1900 buried 12 Jan 1900. My Father was born 5 May 1900 at Fordell, Whanganui,NZ was married on the 5 May 1932 and has a daughter born on the 5 May 1946. My serial Number in the RNZN was 15173 and I have a daughter born 15 Oct 1973 = 15173, our first daughter born 22 Aug 1965 died 13 Oct 1966 buried 15 Oct 1966. Numbers can play a great part in life. I am recording all the ones I come across.
I am closing all records of family trees that have come across my Laptop or computer. I am no longer interested in my ancestors, where they lived or why they came to this very small country. Just want to live today, that is all I have.
I am no longer interested in blood relations because I cannot go into a bank and draw out money in that name. When a woman marries and changers her name to that of her husband then her lineage stops there, that is why I am going to write my story not that anyone will bother to read it. So goodbye to all/everyone at FAMILY TREE CIRCLE..
Unsatisfied.
Sorry to hear that, unsatisfied;
I didn't change my name after marriage and neither has my daughter.
These days you are no longer required to use the husband's last name after marriage and many prefer not to.
Here are today's options:
But if you have changed your name, it costs $127.70 in N.Z. to change it back. Satisfaction guaranteed
Robert McKENZIE died of asthma on the 6 May 1943 in Napier Hawkes Bay NZ.
I have a photo of Leading Aircraftman Alexander Yule McKenzie. For your information I could belong to the following::
Clan McGregor, Clan Montgomerie, Clan Yule, Clan McKenzie and the Patons from the Isle of Skye, but because they changed their names I do not. John McKenzie married Isabella McKenzie and had 18 children 9 girls, 9 boys anothe fammily had 17 children another 14 children. if I used the blood system I am related to all the McKenzies in the Wairarapa, but I choose my English surname handed down to me by my Father and His Father and his Father and so on. I speak with an Scottish accent not a Kiwi one.
Unsatisfied now satisfied it is all finished. I am me and no-one else. I remain under my Father's surname forever and ever.
Well that ain't true on her name, she has family that she once came from, so that line is still there. Sad to have an attitude like that, genealogy is sent to test us at time Have help people on here & on various sites, who have never felt that way. A say to you follow the maternal line you will get joy
