Hi Dave,
I am also a direct descendant of John Watts and am researching my family tree. I have some more information about him, but I am finding difficulty in finding information further down the tree.
I have Richard marrying Elizabeth Holder in about 1798, and having 7 children, John being the second eldest.
John married Mary Pollard of Hethe on 17/1/1825 and they had 7 children,
Fanny 1825-1893
Joseph 1828-1908
James 1831-1897
Elizabeth 1834-1867
Hannah 1837-
Eliza 1841-1900
Edward 1846-
I am a descendant of James, and I want to find out more about my great grand mother Emma, as well as those further up the tree. Do you have any further information you could give me?
I hope this may assist you to go back further or come forward in the putting together the " Watts " ancestral line .The house of names web site has an excellent description on the "Watts " line . Here is only a part of the documentation to wet your appetite to search further.
" The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of William Wattes. This was dated 1279, in the "Hundred Rolls" of the county of Oxfordshire, during the reign of King Edward 1st of England, 1272 - 1307. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling."
