Laura Jane Ford Parents
Laura Jane Ford is my great grandmother. B.28 Aug 1857 Montezuma, Pike Co., IL. D.07 Feb 1920 Montezuma, Pike Co., IL buried in French Cemetery, Pike Co., IL. She Married Edward (Eddie) Hoover in 1884. Children: Elzie, Leslie-my grandfather, Mae, Judson, Wright, Sophia and Grace.
I can't find evidence of her parents. A census form indicated her father was from Vermont. Any help in my search for her parents would be most welcome. I have a pretty complete history of my Hoover family but Laura Jane Ford's ancestors are a mystery.

Well I found your post and I thought I would try to help. But let me tell you that you need to keep an open mind. I went to Familysearch and Wiki Tree and I put in the name Laura Jane Ford born 1857 and died 1920 in Montezuma, Pike County, Ill and I found a Phineas R. Ford. born 1827-1828 in Ohio- his wife is Mahala Moats Ford born abt. 1830 in Ohio. Their Children are: Elizabeth C Ford - Born abt. 1848 Ohio, - Mary Melissa Born -1850 Illinois, - Emily A Ford -B. 1851, - Nancy Jane Ford - Born 1852 in Illinois, Josephine - Born.- 1854 Ill, Louisa M. Ford -B. 1856, Cynthia M.Ford -B. 1859 Lilly F. Born 1865 - Illinois
I believe that your Laura Jane became Nancy Jane Ford born 1852 - Died Oct 29, 1915 Now I said you need to keep an open mind. If you can't find Laura Jane Ford Hoover then maybe look at this with an open mind. I also have:
Alta Belle Ford Maxwell -born 16 June 1873 -Died 28 December 1920 Buried in Averyville, Peoria, Illinois - Her birthplace is Monica, Ill. When this came up it said that her parents were Phineas Ford and Mahaley Moats Ford.
I also brought up Leslie Hoover in a 1940 Census of Montezuma, Pike, Ill .
Leslie age 50 Ill, Mabel age 49, Ill, Leo, age 24, Edward age 20, Melba age 18, Robert age 8. In another census 1920 Leslie age 30 , Wife Mabel 27,son Leo age 4.
Did leslie die in 1968?
If you are trying to find someone born say in 1850 or less, then You have to start where she was born. I you told us that she was born in Montezuma Pike, Ill so that is where I went hoping to find a Ford couple that possibly had several children and one born in 185o's that was close in age as to Laura Jane. Now since the name is not the same and the DOB is different you probably don't believe that this could be her. But this is the closest that I found that could possible be your gggrandmother? Cause there wasn't another family with a child born in the 50's or even a Laura or Jane. But when I research this Phineas had a daughter named Jane who is 18 and who birth was abt 1852. Howver on another census, her name came up as Nancy - Nancy Jane Ford not Laura Jane Ford. so I do not know if Phineas is actually your kin but if Nancy Jane turns out to be Laura Jane, then I am glad I help you. I think that Phineas has all girls no sons, and He died in Peoria County, Ill. Both Mahaley are buried in the Brimfield Cemetery, Peoria County, Ill
Phineas Ford Born Feb. 1826 Ohio, Died- Oct 30, 1892 Brimfield Cemetery, Find A Grave Memorial # 50143324 His parents are Thomas Ford and Catharine Martin Ford.
Mahala M. Ford - Born 1829 Ohio, Died Sept 28, 1879 Peoria, Ill Find a Grave Memorial # 50143323.
Nancy Jane Ford -Born 1852 Died Oct 29, 1915 Buried in Ill.
Alta Belle Ford Maxwell - Springdale Cemetery and Mausoluem Find A Grave Memorial # 64917478. Check this out and get back to me. If you still need help, I am willing to help all I can. Unless you have more information then please let me know. I am curious out this is going to turn out. Don't hesitate to ask. Nsueturney60
I appreciate your research! You really went above and beyond : )
To answer a question: Yes, Leslie Hoover died in 1968. Your Leslie Hoover family info is my line.
I went to findagrave.com and found Edward A. Hoover's stone with the info as i know it. Laura J. b. 1857 d. 1920.
I think it strange that no evidence of marriage of Edward and Laura is available. Even the IL State Archive's do not show it. But then again, i think the state is way behind in gathering info. People that i am absolutely certain about are not shown in death records.
This is my new 'project'. My last 'project' led me finally find that my 3rd ggrandfather was adopted and all the research i had done on his ancestors was all for naught.
Thank you Nsueturney60. You have given me some Ford names that i can follow up on.
You know that you said that the Ford's really didn't move out of Pike County, Ill. Well how I started my research I went to Pike County, Ill in Find a Grave and I notice that there was only i or 2 people that had a birthday that could possibly be some kin to you. I kinda knew the date that I needed so I thought that maybe I could find a name to start my research. So when i went to familysearch.org, then the Phineas Ford came up. So when I put in the Laura Jane in as a possible daughter then Nancy Jane showed up.But you know who you need and If you need help I am here and so is the Familytreecircles. I would like to ask you about Elsie, did she marry? and also have you heard of the name Emma Laura Ford? the name Laura Jane did show up at first and I thought that I found a marriage record. Let me go back and see if I did find it because I may have written it down. I will get back to you here. I have to get my notes and then I will get back to you here. Nsueturney60
Elsie? Do you mean Elzie Hoover? He drowned in the Illinois River at age 16
I have seen Erma, but not Emma. From Illinois Births and Christenings: Laura Jane Ford is regarded as ERMA Laura Ford as the mother for Mae Blanche Hoover. This is the first time i have seen this. And, yes, Mae Blanche Hoover was my great aunt.
Just today i saw a census where Laura J. Hoover's father was from Mass. In an earlier census he was listed as being from Vermont.
