Lavin S from Canbrack Kiltimagh County Mayo Ireland

I am looking for any information on my Grandmother's family from Canbrack, Kiltimagh, County Mayo, Ireland. Her Father was John Lavin, Mother was Ann Boyle who passed between 1897 and the 1901 census. My Grandmother was one of six children ... Martin, Kate, Thomas, Bridget Delia (my Grandmother), Luke and James (3 years old in 1901). After the death of her Mother, "her" Grandmother Ellen Murtagh Lavin raised her. Kate, Luke and my Grandmother came to the States.

Does anyone have any information on what happened to Martin, Thomas and/or James. My Grandmother said James was to come to the States and expected his arrival but he disappeared. Ancestry has him possibly jumping ship 1n 1926, but if that were the case, he would have went to my Grandmother. I believe he may have fallen overboard. Martin and Thomas are just as big a mystery.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Pesky Yank,

Lavin is very present name in my families genealogy apparently. We never heard it growing up but it turns out that my great great grandmothers maiden name was Anne Lavin of Kiltimagh, Mayo. She married Michael Walsh in the mid to late 1800's. They had several children, all of which I have not been able to name, but some are: Michael Walsh (my great grandfather)- Immigrated to the US (Chicago) in in the 1880's; Anne Walsh (O'Brien); Bridget, Catherine, Mary, and at least one other son (name unknown). Most of them, as far as I know immigrated prior to the 1900's but that could be off a bit.

Sound like anything familiar?

My e-mail address is kelljbells82@yahoo.com.

Thanks,

Kelly Gallagher (Walsh)

My Grandfather James Henry Lavin was from Somewhere in Mayo. I don't know how helpful that is I have no idea how many Lavins lived in Mayo but the age would have been about right

My grandfather is the Thomas referenced in Pesky’s request. I can help with you mystery.

It appears that you and I also have the same great great grand parents (small world).

Thomas (born 1893) and a sister moved to Salford, England … approximately 1907 to 1910 –ish.

Fought in WWI.

I have a good family history for his (my) family.

My mother was born in Salford … her siblings are Winifred (Freda), Terry, Thomas, Mary (my mother), Babes, Eileen and John.

My mother and father immigrated to Canada in the mid 50’s, followed by Freda and Eileen. My parents were divorced in 1965 and my mother remarried … I was born Williams, but changed my name to Fredericks when my mother was remarried.

She has relatives in Chicago and New York, with whom she kept in contact. I believe they are the LAVIN clan. I met my mom’s cousins in NY at one time … Edna and her brother … (John, I think).

My mother, who died in 2005, has notes that show that her father and Mary Kate moved to Salford together. Delia, Nora and James went to the US.

I have more info if interested. You can reach me at grant@forensicvideoexpert.com

I am researching Lavins in Kilbeagh, Mayo. My grandma was Anne Lavin born to Pat and Anne Lavin in 1900. I think they lived in Swinford. If you want to share findings, I'm at jnnreilly@msn.com. Thanks. Nancy
