Learning to Seach Your Roots is Like Learning How to Swim
There are two ways to learn how to swim: take lessons, observe others, practice kicking and stroking OR jump right in and find your own way. Your technique this way will never get you into the Olympics, but you will have fun. I am having a ball and looking for both sides of the family all at once, backwards and sideways. Logic says I should concentrate on only one branch at a time, but I am afraid I will lose interest if I hit the "brick wall" that so many write about. In 2 months I have found more ancestors than I ever thought I would using the "free" online sites. Am searching right now for POST, COGAN, GILL, SCHWAB, HICKEY, FRASER and PALLISER.
Good to hear you are enjoying the research . We have all hit the brick wall - wham ! wham ! wham ! and lived to tell our descendants . Just keep your notes clear and dated so you can spring like the cat - over that ? -brick wall or if that don't work use the secret charm I am passing onto you . Come close - thats it - Raise your arms and one large and with the magic chant ' E_E_E-ha-a-a smash the BL~#$~# dy wall to bits - regards -edmondsallan
Thanks for your encouragement. You responded to my first post about 8 weeks ago with equally fine encouragement. This journey is more addicting than chocolate! Getting used to the "new" dating system of date/month/year is difficultto remember. I wonder why we in the USA have to do dates(and measurements)differently than the majority of the world. Awfully arrogant of us, wouldn't you say?
no -- you know the answer - the world is full of ??? whatever . WE still just carry on - Regards - edmondsallan
