There is a small notice in the Victorian Government Gazette March 2nd 1888 page 717 under Impoundings.
Basically the notice mentions a H LeMarshall at Ballan had impounded a strawberry coloured stag and if it wasn't claimed by March 28th 1888 it would be sold.
The important bit here is that it looks like H LeMarshall was residing at Ballan in 1888. Ballan is about 78 km NW of Melbourne on the Werribee River.
The digitised newspapers especially the Argus has a number of mentions for LeMarshall.
