Amongst our private family collection we have many stories ( especially on any one in our clan mentioned for bravery - etc )as well as ancestral detail . Here is a story on
" Lieutentant Edmonds , commander of the Royal navy ship " HMS- ASP " in 1798 . His mission , with also another navy Vessel " HMS Wolvereene " was to assist , 1100 infantry land on the port of Ostend Belgium and if possible stop the French Guns from firing on the british infantry . Their purpose was to land at Ostend - Belgium - destroy the sluice gates at , Bruges canal Locks . These sluice gates controlled and allowed vessels to be transported from the North sea to the Belgium Coast without passing through the English channel . Napoleon's invasion of Briton forces were estimated to 2000 vessels - and 200,000 troops . Lieutenant Edmonds was successful in completeing the mission however the losses were terrific . Napoleon did not invade Briton because of this action that destroyed the sluice gates at Ostend .Lt' Edmonds was wounded in this action and was mentioned in despatches on his bravery . We also had another Edmonds that was honoured with medals for bravery . however that is another story .

Till we meet again - Regards - edmondsallan
