Lipscombe Henry Frederick M Rae Esslemont Jane of Auckland New Zealand

Henry Frederick LIPSCOMBE (1891-1976?) & Esslemont Jane nee RAE were my maternal grandparents. I am Rachael (Rae) Mary Tobeck bn. 6th Dec. 1949 born to Valda Esslemont (nee Lipscombe) Tobeck m. Claude Spencer Tobeck.
I think both my grandparents were born in the early-mid 1890's(?). Henry Frederick's mother was Norwegian her maiden name CAROLINE JOHANASSEN). He was of a family of 12 (?). I believe him to have been the eldest MALE although he may have lost an elder brother in WW1. The name Percy springs to mind - he may well have been the brother who died.
My grandmother Essle. Jane I feel probably to be of Scottish decent both with the name of RAE as well as the inclusion of ESSLEMONT - in her names as well as my mother's.
My mother was born 7th NOV.1920 and had 2 elder syblings Clyde & Desmond. Des had one daughter only born on the 04/04/44. (4th April 1944). I have never met her thoi' you could understand why I remember her birth date. Desmond remarried a couple of times and I believe lost touch with his daughter. There were no other grandchildren other than my sister Cherie Christine bn. 19th Nov. 1947.
I would be so happy to have further info. with regard to either of my grandparents. It is possible that my grandfather was born in Australia. I noiticed a Henry Frederick Lipscombe recently who was born in Tasmania much earlier in the 19th century - who had a son called Percy. Perhaps they were common names of the time but it does seem rather coincidental. Kind regards Rachael Tobeck
Hi Rachael, my name is Teree Brown (nee Lipscombe). My father is Terry Lipscombe, son of Norman Earnest Lipscombe who is a younger brother of a Henry Frederick Lipscombe who I'm pretty sure is the your Grandfather. Unfortunately I don't have any details of Henry's family, however, I do have his birth and death dates and the names of 11 of his brothers and sisters (one of the younger ones being my grandfather). In my info your grandfather was the oldest male with two older sisters. His birthdate I have as 13 October 1891 and death date as 26 December 1977. I came across your journal entry because I have been googling about Caroline Johannassen (sp?). I have a birthdate and her burial details (she is buried in Waikumete Cemetery in Auckland) but that's it about her so I was trying to find more information. However, I have names and details of the Lipscombe line. Our grandfathers' father was Percy Reginald Lipscombe and his father was Henry Fredrick Lipscombe, born in Hobart 1832. It would be nice to hear from you. All the best, Teree
Awesome Terry , how really lovely to hear from you. I remember Terry did he have brother as well (Russell???)? It's funny what you remember from your childhood - something really odd about his getting married and polishing the bottom of his shoes for when he had to kneel in the church.
I just rediscovered this pic I knew I had lieing around. It's goody because I think the whole family is there. My Grandad (Henry Frederick) top right. And I guess your dad is there too. Do you know which one. There are 3 boys there who look such similar age I can't pick them out. I'm pretty sure I've got the names of the whole family. There was one son (Reginald Christian - born 1893 after my grandad)but died in 1896 it seems just before he turned 6 yrs. And Theo, Oscar and Norman seemed to be born within a 5 year period. Yes and Norman was about 14 years younger than my grandad. God she did well poping out all those babies. Just amazing. Those Lipscombe lads seemed to love breeding didn't they.
I hadn't realised that they dropped into Tasmania for such a long while. I had wondered as my grandad used to say 'dance' with an Ozzy twang.
I have managed a few more facts from Ancestry.com.au. Really can't find anything much about my Nana - Esslemont Jane Rae tho.
So nice to hear from you. Maybe you can clarify who all the individual males are in the pic. Let me know if you do.
Kind regards Terri
Rachael
Sorry Terri --- I meant your grandad Norman E. will be in the pic.
