London 50 Policeman

Benjamin Frederick Trawin was one of 50 London policemen who came to Australia in 1853 to help with Law and Order. They sailed on the Earl Grey.

I am after information about the London 50 in Australia, but also from the London end. How did they get enticed to join up?

What were their duties? any information would be wonderful.
