Looking for any information on David McLean and Mary Caithness (wife)

Query by Morag1947

David McLean was my paternal great grandfather. He married Mary Caithness in 1878 in Panbride, Angus, Scotland. They had 10 children, one of which was my grandfather Charles Caithness McLean. I know that James Caithness was an ancestor and a Ship Master. I'm looking to fill in the gaps and locate any information on the siblings of Charles.

There are quite a few details in here I didn't have, so this is wonderful and thanks for your reply.
David McLean (my great grandfather) had very bad asthma, and died of it while fairly young so it's probably him. This was told to me by my grandfather Charles Caithness McLean. My grandfather also told us that his father was often bedridden with the asthma, and would reel in misbehaving children with a fishing rod to mete out punishment!
George may possibly not be on the census as I think he must have been the son that went to sea. There was one son who was lost at sea according to my grandfather. He was washed overboard while in the rigging. The Annie McLean site I mention below states that George McLean married Agnes Moffat in 1905 in Panbride, so the seafaring accident was either wrong or happened after that. I'll have to research farther.
I found a site that included Annie because of her marriage to William Watt Cable. She died in childbirth, as did the child, in May 1912.

There is a marriage listed for William Cable & Annie Mclean in 1911 but not in Angus.

There is a death for Ann Cable 1912 in the right age bracket.

It looks like a visit to the Scotlands People website will be well worth the money.

THank you for the information. I'll now look up Scotlands People. Half the work is finding out which sites will provide the best information. I've tried Ancestry.com and haven't had much success finding birth/death records, or anything much for that matter. I'm now ready to move on and you've been a big help.
Thanks so much!
