Dear robf, Hi. I first checked the website myself without finding your 'BARRY' family which I thought was weird.
Questions - what was the source of the birth date for your Catherine BARRY?
Whom did Catherine marry?
What were her children's names?
Can you expand upon your genealogy within this journal? The more info you share the more you increase your chances of contact by descendants who are also 'doing the family tree' like yourself.
As QLD was part of NSW until 1859, don't forget to check for your BARRY family members at NSW Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages click on FAMILY HISTORY, SEARCH HISTORICAL INDEXES, then read the step by step guide or click on SEARCH NOW if you are familiar with online searching.
Join up as new member of RootsChat. Then goto their EMIGRANTS TO AUSTRALIA board. Lots of rootschatters have the old pioneers indexes on cd-rom and are quite happy to do lookups for members.
All abovelisted sites are FREE except this one, but it is brilliant. GenesReunited $
And of course there are lots of other ideas. You never know what comes up when you google surnames from your tree with the + sign and the words genealogy or some such place names that your family members lived.
I always recommend following a tried and true practice of purchasing birth, death and marriage certs of all main ancestors, and then siblings only if more detail is required. You can use a Transcription Agent to cut down on your costs, but I don't think QLD has one at present. Read this website for more info... QLD Research Tips
Alison Thank you for your help. I have tried all of the sites mentioned by you but to no avail. My BARRY family does not seem to exist!
I have Catherine's date of birth from her birth certificate. I gather she was also known as Kate. She married William Edward PERRY on 4 Dec 1882 in Brisbane. They had 9 children, one of whom, Emily Louise b. 29 Aug 1884 d. 22 Jun 1958, was my paternal grandmother.
Any help in finding this family will be appreciated.
Dear robf, You are welcome. Your BARRY family perhaps could have moved out of the State of QLD in search or work. Keep looking.
Also, regarding your family tree, pick the brains of all your rellies (anyone and everyone who will give you an answer) and try and collaborate / prove / disprove any stories you may accumulate.
Think about this, has anyone else in your family ever done the family tree? Whip up a bit of interest, whet their appetite, have a family reunion, create a family tree website at tribalpages, make everyone feel proud of who they are, where they came from, etc.etc....
Dear robf, If you have a look here, there were quite a few BARRY families in Queensland. Website is free to search online...

Thank you 'allycat'. I have tried those records without any reference to this family. Do you have any other ideas?

Do you have her Birth Cert? If not QLD Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages but I think their records of birth are from 1890.
